Screws in dryer vent flue pipe

  • Rigid Metal Ducting (Aluminum or Galvanized Steel):

    • Minimal use of short, self-tapping screws (1/4" max length) is acceptable but not ideal.
    • Screws can trap lint, leading to clogs and fire hazards.
    • Instead, use metal foil tape or clamps to secure the joints.
  • Flexible Ducting (Foil or Plastic – Not Recommended)

    • These should never be secured with screws.
    • Plastic ducts are a fire hazard and should be replaced with rigid or semi-rigid metal ducting.
  • Semi-Rigid Aluminum Ducting

    • Usually secured with clamps or metal foil tape—screws are not recommended.

In summary, while screws can be used sparingly in rigid metal ducts, it’s better to avoid them and use foil tape or clamps to prevent lint buildup.
