Here’s a Pre-Drywall Inspection Checklist to help you thoroughly examine your home before drywall installation.


🔍 Pre-Drywall Inspection Checklist

1️⃣ Foundation & Framing

✅ No visible cracks or damage in foundation walls and slab
✅ Framing is level, plumb, and properly anchored
✅ No over-notched or over-drilled studs or joists (which could weaken the structure)
✅ Load-bearing walls and beams are correctly installed
✅ Window and door openings are properly framed

2️⃣ Electrical System

✅ All outlet, switch, and light box placements match the plans
✅ Wiring is secured properly with no exposed or damaged wires
✅ Electrical panel is installed in the correct location
✅ GFCI outlets installed where required (kitchen, bathrooms, garage, exterior)
✅ Smoke and carbon monoxide detector wiring is present

3️⃣ Plumbing System

✅ Pipes are correctly positioned for sinks, tubs, toilets, and appliances
✅ No leaks at pipe connections or fittings
✅ Water supply lines are properly insulated (if needed)
✅ Drain, waste, and vent pipes are securely fastened and sloped correctly

4️⃣ HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)

✅ Ductwork is properly secured and insulated where necessary
✅ Air vents and returns are in the correct locations
✅ No crushed or disconnected ducts
✅ Proper sealing around duct penetrations

5️⃣ Insulation

✅ Insulation is installed per code requirements
✅ No gaps or compressed areas in insulation
✅ Fire-blocking insulation is present where required

6️⃣ Windows & Doors

✅ All windows and doors are installed square and plumb
✅ Proper flashing and sealing around windows and doors to prevent leaks
✅ No visible gaps or daylight around frames

7️⃣ Roof & Attic

✅ Roof sheathing is properly nailed and secured
✅ Proper ventilation installed (ridge vents, soffit vents, etc.)
✅ No visible water penetration

8️⃣ Safety & Code Compliance

✅ Fire-blocking and fire-stopping installed correctly
✅ Staircase framing is secure and meets code requirements
✅ Proper clearance for electrical panel and appliances


📸 Pro Tip: Take Photos!

Before drywall goes up, take pictures of all walls, ceilings, and floors. This will help in future renovations, repairs, or troubleshooting hidden systems.
